Footprints - test drive the American life

The Footprints Program is a three week program where students live with a host family, participate in interactive, activity-based English lessons, and experience the area through local excursions, high school visits, and volunteer work. This program will provide students with a typical American experience, an insight into American culture and greater language skills.

What is unique about our program is that our host sibling participate with you on a daily basis. On a typical day, we have as many host siblings in class and on the excursions as we have exchange students. This allows the students to not only improve their English skills, but to form deep and lasting relationships with their host families.

We look forward to having you participate in our program!

Accommodation

Volunteer host families provide room and board and transportation to and from daily activities. Students can share a room with a same sex host sibling within a few years age difference. There is often carpooling available to and from activities.

Host families must complete a host family application, have references checked, be available for an in home interview and participate in a host family orientation.

English Course

During your three weeks stay in Asheville you will participate in an English course which will capture your attention for 40 hours.

All American host siblings, 8 years and older, are invited to participate in our interactive English classes as well as activities and excursions. This program also provides a wonderful opportunity for young American students to get to know another culture while participating in activities with our exchange students.

Testimonies

I have stayed in a great family, who lived in a nice and beautiful area. The family was really nice ! We had good fun and I became friends with my host brother. The activities were great and even the school was fun because the lessons were great with our teacher Laura! I loved the trip to summer camp Windy Gap and Dollywood most. But every day was great – even the weekends, when I did things with my host family!! I hope to have a chance to go to USA again. Sean Carstensen

I was in Asheville in summer 2008 and I enjoyed every day. Each day we had new awesome things to do. We did great exursions and learned very much in class with our teacher Laura. My host family was I think the best I coud ever get. I stayed 3 weeks with Bethany, Jens and their niece Emmalee. We had a so nice time together and a lot of fun. The activities had been so exiting and varied. I think my English got a lot better than before and I will never forget this summer in Asheville. Elisa Schifferens
